US, Iran Agree to Peace Deal Ending Conflict Washington, D.C. (US)

The United States and Iran have reached a peace deal to end their four-month conflict, as announced by US President Donald Trump and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The agreement entails a permanent halt to military operations and is scheduled for official signing on 19 June in Switzerland, according to a CNBC report.

This agreement marks a major de-escalation of tensions and could lead to broader diplomatic relations in the Middle East region.

The deal, which involves the US, was confirmed by the respective leaders. US forces conducted airstrikes against facilities used by Iran-backed militias in eastern Syria on Sunday, as reported by CNBC. The Pentagon confirmed these strikes targeted operational and weapons storage facilities at two locations. These actions were authorised by President Biden, according to the Pentagon, targeting facilities near the Iraq-Syria border. These strikes were deemed defensive measures by the Pentagon.

This marks the second time the Biden administration has ordered strikes against Iran-backed groups in Syria, following previous strikes in February 2021. Al Jazeera reported that President Trump also commented on the peace deal, stating the Strait of Hormuz is reopening. The CNBC article outlining the deal was published on 15 June 2026.

The full assessment of damage from the recent strikes, any casualties among the militia groups, and the potential for retaliatory actions by Iran or its proxies remain unknown. Details regarding UN monitoring or international guarantees are pending. Further statements are expected from both governments.
